IMD405 - Assignment 2 Wk 1 Post 2 Learning Journal

Hi everyone, GaryZ reporting on his Personal Learning Journal for IMD405 again. One thing that really urks me is Google keeping their search engine algorithms a secret. Everyone knows that Google is number one when it comes to search engines so everyone wants top ranking on Google. I can see why they wouldn’t want to give competitors the actual algorithms but at least give websites a chance to better themselves in ranking.

By keeping their algorithms secret they run the risk of having websites blacklisted by accident. I know people should only employ white hat practices but who defines white hat and black hat practices? I’m sure Google does if not totally then I know they at least have their fingers in the mix. It makes you wonder how much you have to pay them to get good search results. I had a vitamin supply company for a while and used their “Adwords” campaigns as well as Yahoo’s and they kept on raising the price until it wasn’t viable for me to continue them. I was forced to shut down my business because I couldn’t compete with everyone else and couldn’t “afford” to raise my rankings by paying Google. There has to be some middle ground somewhere.
